Gloucester is unusual in having a resource usually found in larger urban communities--a
Montessori School. The School includes two Children's House classes for ages 3-6,
and an elementary class for ages 6-10. The goal of a Montessori education is to allow
each child to reach his or her full potential, intellectually and in relationships
with others, while developing a sense of self-esteem and responsibility.
We encourage:
- responsible decision making
- creative self-expression
- orderliness and respect of environment
- cooperation and positive interactions with others
- independence and self-discipline
- non-competitive attitudes
The morning session for 3 and 4 year olds is from 8:30 to 11:45. For kindergarten
through third grade, the schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The School offers an
after-school care program for children enrolled in kindergarten and elementary
programs.
Gloucester Montessori, located on Route 17 just north of Gloucester Court House,
is a non-profit organization led by a board of directors composed primarily of parents.
